Back discomfort can interrupt work, rest and family life. Understanding the next steps starts with an assessment.
Understanding the concern
Back pain can have several causes, and sometimes there is no single obvious cause. The way it affects your movement matters as much as the label.
Start with an assessment
Keep a note of when symptoms started, what makes them better or worse and how they affect daily tasks. Share any relevant medical history during assessment.
A plan that fits your needs
A physiotherapy plan may include tailored movement, exercise and education. The right approach depends on your symptoms and examination; avoid copying an exercise plan that was designed for somebody else.
When to seek urgent medical care
Sudden weakness, new loss of bladder or bowel control, or numbness around the groin alongside back pain needs urgent medical evaluation. Sudden facial weakness, arm weakness or speech difficulty also needs emergency care. Do not wait for an appointment request.
General patient education, not an individual diagnosis or treatment plan. Discuss your symptoms with a qualified clinician. Content should be clinically reviewed before launch.
